As one of the most distinguished opera directors, David LI Wei has worked with world acclaimed opera houses like: L'Opéra Comique de Paris, L'Opéra de Nice, L'Opéra de Saint-Etienne, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, L'Opéra Toulouse, Howai Opera, Grand Theatre de Genève, Seoul Art Centre, L'Opéra Hong Kong, Opera Shanghai, China National Centre of Performing Art (Beijing National Opera) as well as International Music Festivals in Beijing, Macao and Shanghai.
His main productions include: Carmen, La Damnation de Faust, The Marriage of Figaro, The Barber of Seville, La Serva Padrona, Le Vills, La Voix Humaine, La Traviata, Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Gianni Schicchi, Tosca, Aida, La Cenerentola, Merry Widow, Turandot etc.
In 2007, he produced and directed the China premiere of the French modern opera La Voix Humaine for the Croisements organized by The French Embassy and made a tour in Shanghai, Beijing and Dalian. The Performance has won a Grammaphone Prize. In 2008, he created and produced a Chinese version of The Marriage of Figaro which won a big success in tour. The show was also invited by The Chinese Ministry of Culture Affair to perform as the closing ceremony of 2009 China International Youth Art Festival in Beijing. His production of The Merry Widow which cooperated with China Philharmonic has made a sensation in Beijing and Guangzhou. His production of Puccini’s first opera Le Villis has been praised by the press as “The milestone of China opera performance.”
